The Rotating Head
nThe entire assembly of the eye pieces (also called the ‘head’) can be rotated around a vertical axis. This facilitates the use of the microscopes by two or three persons without having to move the microscope or changing positions of the observers.  To prevent unwanted movement of the head, it can be locked by turning a small screw at the side (arrows). The screw is turned clockwise to ‘lock’ the head and anticlockwise to ‘unlock’.
nThe picture above show (from left) the head in the central position and turned in two different directions (middle and right).
nTurning of the head also turns the view through the microscope by a similar angle – something to be remembered when showing a view to someone else.
nMoving a microscope especially when there a slide on the stage is not good for its health! And two students changing positions in front of the microscope is not free of dangers either! Turn the head of the microscope instead!
