Focusing Knobs
nThe focusing knobs (3) are located on both sides of the microscopes. On each side there are two concentric (coaxial really!) knobs (A and B). Both knobs function by raising or lowering the stage.
nThe outer knob (A) moves it through a greater distance for a small turn and is called the coarse adjustment knob.
nThe inner knob (B) is for fine adjustment.

nVery gently turn the knob A both ways and notice the movement of the stage. Turning in the direction indicated by the arrow should lower the stage. The opposite movement will raise the stage.
nBe very careful when raising the stage. A badly aligned objective lens may be hit by the stage.
n Turn the fine adjustment knob and note that the movement of the stage is imperceptible.
